Fandango announced that it will launch a new program on its website and ticketing app that will allow users to check their local theaters for Covid-19 safety protocols when they reopen. Users will be able to find information that theaters have provided about auditorium occupancy and social distance seating, mask and protective equipment policies, enhanced cleaning measures, special concession services, and more. Over 100 theater chains have partnered with Fandango to share information about when their theaters reopen and what they are doing to keep customers safe.

The UK’s Cinema First has announced that 450 films will be made available for theatrical screenings once movie theaters re-open for business in the coming weeks. The content has been collated by the Film Distributors’ Association with the aim of aiding programmers and cinema operators to choose the widest possible mix of product that will help draw audiences back to the movies.

The Australian federal government said that it would provide the film and industry with $34.4 million ($A$50 million) as a post-coronavirus relief measure. The move was announced a day after public broadcaster the Australian Broadcasting Corporation said it would lay off 250 staff. The new fund, to be administered by Screen Australia, will be largely directed to providing financial guarantees that allow the film and TV industries to restart production. The government statement acknowledged that “filming of new productions has largely been halted as insurers are not providing coverage for COVID-19.”

Greece, where the death rate due to the coronavirus outbreak has been among among the lowest in Europe, is looking to lure more international productions by raising its cash rebates from 35% to 40% just as cameras are already rolling there on what is being touted as the first post-pandemic European co-production to start up.
