AMC Networks chief Josh Sapan told The Hollywood Reporter that Acorn TV has "among the lowest churn" among major services owing to its focus as well as viewers' "dedication and affinity" for its content.

New York City’s Metrograph has announced the launch of the Metrograph TV App, designed to allow its members nationwide access to all Metrograph live streams and on-demand programming directly via their TV remote. The Metrograph TV App is available starting today at no cost on Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku, with an Android TV launch coming soon. Like most other NYC theaters, the Metrograph closed its doors in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but is now readying for a September re-opening. The two-screen theater, located on Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side, has yet to announce its full release plans as other NYC-area theaters continue to reopen, but today’s launch of the app makes it clear that a digital component will be part of its plans moving forward....

Ava Duvernay’s distribution, arts and advocacy collective Array has partnered with Google to launch a new feature film grant benefiting emerging creatives from underrepresented communities. The filmmaker selected for the Array + Google Feature Film Grant will receive $500,000 to fund their first full-length feature film. Additionally, the project’s production will be staffed by Array crew, the collective’s inclusive hiring database for below-the-line crew members....

The Cannes Marché has unveiled the first list of films that will be showcased at its Pre-Cannes Screenings online event running June 21-25, ahead of its traditional physical edition alongside the Cannes Film Festival from July 6-15. “We have around 1,000 screenings, 61% of which will be market premieres, and 150 exhibitors, or sales companies,” said market executive director Jérome Paillard.  ”Many films will have two screenings so there will be around 500 films in total.”...

Alamo Drafthouse, the theater chain that’s popular for its no-nonsense approach to moviegoing, has emerged from Chapter 11. The company announced plans to open five new theaters — with locations in Manhattan, Staten Island, St. Louis and two in Washington D.C...

 Multiplex operators in South Korea have begun to offer significantly reduced cinema tickets to moviegoers who have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 coronavirus. In pre-pandemic 2019 South Korea was the world’s fourth largest box office territory. The move was announced by the Korea Theater Association on Tuesday and is being offered by operators of the three largest cinema chains, CGV, Megabox and Lotte Cinema. The campaign will run for a month, until the end of June...

The UK’s National Film and Television School (Nfts) is partnering with studios provider Pinewood Group on a training center for the next generation of filmmakers. The Nfts training facility will sit within the proposed Screen Hub UK, Pinewood’s expansion development at its Pinewood Studios site in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire. Buckinghamshire Council is due to make a decision on the Screen Hub UK planning application later in the year. The training center will include shooting space for the teaching of practical filmmaking, as well as office space...
