Poland’s president, Andrzej Duda, has vetoed a controversial new media ownership law that Discovery had condemned as an “attack” on freedom of speech and a threat to the future of independent media after the country’s parliament passed it before the holidays. The controversial legislation was designed to block companies from outside the European Economic Area from holding a controlling stake in Polish TV and radio companies. Critics have argued that the law was designed to target Discovery, which owns Polish TV giant TVN Group, which includes TVN24, Poland’s most watched news channel and a network whose reporters have often been critical of the country’s conservative ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party...

Fabergé’s Game of Thrones $2.22 million hand-forged “commemorative egg objet” was sold to an anonymous U.S. buyer in April shortly after its announcement and before the nine months of painstaking work was begun by Fabergé workmaster Paul Jones and his team of artisans. The bespoke œuf (or however you say “dragon egg” in Valyrian) was revealed at a private unveiling Dec. 10 in Beverly Hills. The Mother of Dragons-worthy egg is adorned with thousands of white diamonds, pink sapphires, moonstones and rubies. The shell was molded from sheets of 18-karat white gold, and the egg’s pattern was drawn free-form and then engraved directly onto the material. The sparkling enamel scales were made from crushed light blue, grey, mauve and violet glass that was made into a paste, then layered, fired and re-polished. An 18-karat white gold dragon tail wraps around the base, which is adorned with white diamonds and moonstones and contains a twisting mechanism of moving joints and linkages that required a “time-consuming” design process. The objet opens to reveal yet another egg made of three 18-karat gold blades that each represent Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. The interior egg’s inner shells are finished with more than 20 deep red blood drop-like rubies surrounded by a pavé of hundreds of pink sapphires and white diamonds. The “heart” of the egg is a pear-cut ruby that sits atop a removable white gold crown, which can be removed and attached as a pendant to a necklace chain that’s hidden away within the piece. According to a report from Samba TV (via Deadline), the third-party streaming statistics organization surveyed its users and found data that suggests “The Matrix Resurrections” was streamed by 2.8 million smart TV U.S. households over the first five days of release. When you compare “The Matrix Resurrections” to other films during their initial 5-day release on HBO Max, you find that the Lana Wachowski film falls well below the biggest release— “Godzilla vs. Kong” (3.6 million). The comparison with ‘Godzilla’ is also pretty unfavorable when you consider the monster film earned $48.1 million during its first five days of domestic release, whereas “The Matrix Resurrections” only earned $22.5 million...
