“Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan commissioned two statues of characters Walter White and Jesse Pinkman to be housed in Albuquerque, New Mexico in honor of the Emmy-winning AMC series. Bryan Cranston portrayed high school teacher turned meth maker White, with Aaron Paul starring as White’s business associate, surrogate son, and drug dealer. “Breaking Bad,” which concluded in 2013, spurred the Netflix film “El Camino” and AMC’s prequel spin-off series “Better Call Saul,” centered on the origins of Bob Odenkirk’s cracked attorney.“Over the course of 15 years, two TV shows and one movie, Albuquerque has been wonderful to us,” Gilligan said in a press release. “I wanted to return the favor and give something back.” The bronze statues will be donated to the city of Albuquerque by Gilligan and Sony Pictures Television. The sculptures are set to be on display at the Albuquerque Convention Center in July....

Jupiter’s Claim, the fictional theme park featured in Jordan Peele’s upcoming sci-fi horror film Nope, is taking up permanent residence as part of Universal’s Studio Tour. The new attraction, which will be featured at Univeral Studios Hollywood, was created by production designer Ruth DeJong and carefully disassembled postproduction before being reconstructed at Universal Studios Hollywood — complete with original props and other details from the movie. Fans can experience Jupiter’s Claim firsthand beginning July 22, the same day as Nope‘s theatrical release...

The Museum of the Moving Image and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced finalists for their nationwide Film Program on Wednesday. The Sloan Student Grand Jury awards two outstanding film or series screenplays that integrate science or technology with a cash prize of $20,000 and a year-round mentorship from a scientist and film industry professional. The winners will be honored in the fall at a MoMI awards ceremony. The Sloan Student Prizes were created with the goal of advancing the paths of emerging filmmakers. Established in 2011 with the Grand Jury Prize and expanded in 2019 with the Discovery Prize, the former awards students from the program’s six partner film schools, while the latter nominated scripts from six public universities...

The 2022 UK-Ireland box office is tracking at 80% of the last complete pre-pandemic year, with cinemas continuing a recovery towards full strength; as eyes turn to the release schedule for the remainder of the year.Total box office for 2022 stood at £493m at the end of June, compared to £614.2m for the first six months of 2019.Should box office continue at this rate, 2022 will end at £1.08bn. The Italian government is poised to extend the exclusive 90-day theatrical window rule to all films released in Italy, not just those with Italian public funding or tax credits. It follows the introduction in April of a blanket 90-day theatrical window for all films (Italian and non-Italian) that had received state backing.
