When Marvel decided to bring Jeff Loveness back to write Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, After nearly a week of being "on the job" and the reports linking him to Avengers 5, Loveness had some fun with the responsibility of writing the film. The Rick and Morty scribe took to Twitter to ask his followers, Film Twitter, and MCU fans a very simple question: How do you write a movie? The responses on Twitter varied from people genuinely trying to explain how to write a movie and joking about the MCU formula. Even award-winning comic writer/artist Chip Zdarsky shared his advice with a fake Avengers 5 script page. Asking Twitter for advice on how to write a movie like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is not so much out of place, this is a question many fans tend to answer unprompted anyway. The American French Film Festival is set to open with a North American premiere for Jean-Jacques Annaud’s Notre-Dame on Fire on Oct. 10. Annaud, who will attend the festival, is bringing his latest film, which re-creates the events of April 15, 2019, when the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris caught fire, prompting a heroic rescue of the celebrated church. The festival, formerly called COLCOA, will end on Oct. 16 with Dominik Moll’s thriller The Night of the 12th screening at DGA Theater Complex in Los Angeles. The American French Film Festival will dedicate its annual Focus on a Filmmaker spotlight to Moll and will also close with Irma Vep, Olivier Assayas’ HBO remake of his 1996 film, which had a world theatrical premiere at the festival...

The world premiere of Halloween Ends will close out the 2022 edition of Beyond Fest, the Los Angeles-based genre film festival that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. My Best Friend’s Exorcism, based on the Grady Hendrix best-seller; Christmas Bloody Christmas; and Nocebo, starring Eva Green and Mark Strong, are among the other horror movie premieres the festival will unveil during its run Sept. 27 to Oct. 11. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, fresh from its debut at the Toronto Film Festival, will have its U.S. premiere at Beyond Fest, with other festival circuit darlings — Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, Mark Mylod’s The Menu and Triangle of Sadness — also on the bill...

Tom Hardy of Venom and Peaky Blinders fame shocked the crowds at a martial arts tournament in a small English city on Saturday, quietly entering the competition and winning all his matches. The Guardian reported that Hardy entered the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship held at a high school gym in Milton Keynes, England. His unannounced presence came as a surprise to spectators and opponents as he had entered under his real name, Edward Hardy. Somewhat echoing his role in the 2011 MMA drama Warrior, Hardy came from nowhere and went on to win all his contests.....

Aspiring voiceover artists might fall into the trap of equating expensive equipment with success, but Kaitlyn Robrock, the actor behind Minnie Mouse's voice, advises against splurging on fancy technology early on. Instead, she said that aspiring voiceover actors should focus on the fundamentals of acting. "Don't worry at first about expensive elements to this career, like a really expensive shotgun mic or a super high-end demo that's been manipulated to make you sound amazing," she said. "All that doesn't bring you talent or understanding of that world. Focus on learning how to act or how to bring points of views to each kind of archetype of character.” Moreover, Robrock emphasized that young voice actors who focus solely on their voice are missing an important component of the job. "It doesn't matter if you don't have a range of sounds in your voice," Robrock added. "Jenny Slate has one voice; John Goodman, one voice; Jason Alexander, one voice. But they are so good at acting and the point of view of their archetypes that it doesn't matter that their voice is exactly the same. It's still a different person."...

HBO is trying to protect viewers from the dangers of smoking — through removing images of cigarettes and cigars. HBO Max removed Warren Beatty’s and Paul Newman’s cigars from movie poster art used on its home page: ‘McCabe & Mrs. Miller.’ ‘The Life and Times of [Judge] Roy Bean,’” The revised movie poster for director Robert Altman’s 1971 film “McCabe & Mrs. Miller” depicts the star Warren Beatty with his fingers flicked upward — a space in-between them for a cigarette to comfortably rest. Similarly, a Photoshopped version of the poster for the 1972 dramedy “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” also leaves plenty of room for the imagination, featuring Paul Newman with his hands raised to his mouth as if about to inhale from a cigarette...
