When Harry Met Sally …, Iron Man, The Little Mermaid, Hairspray, House Party and Carrie are among the 25 cinematic gems chosen this year for the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry, it was announced Wednesday. Also voted in: Cyrano de Bergerac (1950), which made José Ferrer the first Hispanic actor to win the Oscar for best actor; Stanley Donen‘s Charade (1963), starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant; the documentaries Titicut Follies (1967) from Frederick Wiseman and Union Maids (1976) from the recently deceased Julia Reichert; Super Fly (1972), the blaxploitation classic starring Ron O’Neal; and The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982), starring Edward James Olmos. Under the terms of the National Film Preservation Act, the librarian each year names 25 motion pictures at least 10 years old that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant. There are now 850 films in the registry....

Collider is teaming up with Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation for a free early screening next week on the DreamWorks campus in Glendale, CA, and got directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado for the post-screening Q& Puss in Boots: The Last Wish event includes a post-show reception where fans can mingle with the directors and fellow attendees and enjoy a hot chocolate bar for the kids and cocktails for the adults. Tyler Perry has boarded his next feature film with “Six Triple Eight,” a new period drama coming to Netflix. Based on an article written by journalist Kevin M. Hymel for WWII History Magazine, “Six Triple Eight” tells the story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female battalion active during World War II. The group, which consisted of 855 women, was tasked with sorting through a three-year backlog of 17 million pieces of undelivered mail, reconnecting American soldiers with their loved ones at home, while struggling with discrimination and violence in war-torn Europe. The women of the Battalion received the Congressional Gold Medal this year after President Joe Biden signed the bill to honor them...
