Apple TV+ released a new trailer for its drama “Fancy Dance” starring Lily Gladstone and Isabel Deroy-Olson. The film follows Jax (Gladstone), who has cared for her niece Rokie (Deroy-Olson) since her sister’s disappearance by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow. Netflix added a whopping 9.33 million subscribers in the first quarter of the year, an impressive figure that blew away Wall Street’s expectations. We now know it has just shy of 270 million subscribers worldwide. The streamer writes that beginning in Q1 2025, Netflix will “stop reporting quarterly membership numbers and ARM,” which stands for “average revenue per membership.” So not only will we not know each quarter how many subscribers Netflix has at a given moment, we also won’t know how much revenue it made off each of those subscribers....

Turner Classic Movies is going streaming, thanks to a partnership with video-on-demand streaming service, Fandango at Home, previously known as Vudu. TCM is debuting its new digital storefront on Fandango at Home that will give access to the network’s library of films, and the movies will be made available for free streaming. The partnership begins with 30 classic films from TCM to watch for free on a weekly rotation throughout April and May on Fandango’s streamer. TCM’s film library includes movies from the Warner Bros., MGM, and RKO catalogs, many of which have played at the TCM Classic Film Festival over the last 15 years. Some of the initial features that will be available include “Cool Hand Luke,” “The Dirty Dozen,” and “Rebel Without a Cause.”...

The Russo Brothers‘ independent studio announced on Wednesday the formation of a new Innovation department, which will blend AGBO’s “physical and virtual production capabilities.” The studio’s technologists will “build proprietary creative tools for storytellers, fostering production innovation and cost efficiency for content across diverse platforms,” the press release reads. Roadmap Writers, a screenwriting education and training platform based in Los Angeles, is partnering with Hollywood producer Barry Josephson to identify short stories fit for film and television adaptation. The competition, open now and running through June 14, seeks commercial-leaning work and carries a cash prize of $7,000. The top three stories will be published on Roadmap Writers. For the Josephson competition, scouters are asking for work no longer than 50 pages and can be of any genre. In addition to the short story, authors are requested to submit a 1-page personal statement that expresses their personal brand, why they applied and the inspiration for their short. Josephson’s development executives Christian Bersani and Kelsi Fleming will serve as the jury, an initiative overseen by Josephson and his president, D. Matt Geller. Huggy Wuggy has been called up by Hollywood. Beating out several competitive offers, Legendary has closed an aggressive deal with Mob Entertainment to develop and produce a live-action feature adaptation of Poppy Playtime, a horror video game featuring the toy-turned-monster. Legendary will develop and produce along with Mob Entertainment and Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, who recently finished filming horror movie Faces of Death for the company. Featuring shades of Willy Wonka, Toy Story and Gremlins, the first person video game sees the player acting as a former employee of a faded toy brand who, thanks to a cryptic letter, is drawn back to an abandoned facility only to quickly discover it has become home to a host of toys, including Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, and CatNap, that have taken on a life of their own.
