Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for “Love You to Death” (“A muerte”), the Spanish-language romantic comedy hailing from Atresmedia TV and Goya Award-nominated Dani de la Orden (“Casa en Flames”). Starring Goya Award winner Verónica Echegui (“The Patients of Dr. García”) and Joan Amargós (“Show Yourself”), the seven-episode series will make its global debut on Apple TV+ Wednesday, February 5 with the first two episodes, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through March 12...

With the countless factors involved in bringing a successful Oscar campaign to life — this year, the shortlist of 15 chosen from the 85 countries that submitted films — even making the shortlist, let alone getting nominated, without a theatrical distributor to get the word out beforehand is a major accomplishment. With the new Academy rules, films vying for nominations have to send email blasts through the Academy and can only send a member one email per week. This can cost up to $800 per week for international films, and even up to $2,000 if they are also campaigning for Best Picture. And just getting the qualifying seven-day theatrical run can rack up to $8,000...

SAG-AFTRA has announced a tentative agreement with Telemundo Television Studios to represent its Spanish-language television performers. Telemundo is the largest employer of Spanish-language talent in the United States. If approved, the deal will cover the contract period from Oct. 1, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2028. The actors guild previously reached a contract with Telemundo in 2018, which included participation in and contributions to the guild’s health and pension plans, as well as an increase in certain compensation. That agreement came after 81% of eligible Telemundo performers voted to unionize. The Miami-based network has been under the NBCUniversal umbrella since 2001...

Agora, the industry section of the Thessaloniki Intl. Documentary Festival, has selected 14 projects for its Pitching Forum. All the projects are from Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region, although the filmmakers can be from elsewhere. Agora, which runs March 7-15, has also revealed the projects that will feature in its new initiative Agora XR Lab. Among the filmmakers attached to projects in the Pitching Forum is Poland’s Michał Marczak, whose “All These Sleepless Nights” won a prize at Sundance, and whose “Fuck for Forest” played at SXSW. Also selected is Belgium’s Volkan Üce, whose “All-In” took awards at Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and Istanbul Film Festival; Hungary’s Alexa Bakony, whose “Colors of Tobi” picked up a prize at Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival; and Portugal’s Ana Sofia Fonseca, whose “Cesária Évora” won a prize at Krakow and IndieLisboa....

The Oscars have shared details about how they will honor the city of Los Angeles amid the devastation caused by wildfires, along with other updates to this year’s ceremony. In a letter sent to Academy members, CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang outlined plans for the 97th Oscars ceremony, set to take place on Sunday, March 2. The announcement comes on the heels of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, with the Academy using the opportunity to highlight its commitment to the resilience of the film industry and its home city. In a break from tradition, the original song category will forgo live performances of the nominated songs — a staple of Oscars ceremonies past. Instead, the show will spotlight the songwriters through personal reflections and behind-the-scenes insights from the creative teams behind the music. This year’s contenders are expected to include songs from Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical “Emilia Pérez,” featuring numbers that would have been sung by Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez....

Software giant Adobe is making an additional $5 million commitment — on top of its $6 million pledge last year — to support underrepresented creators and filmmakers in the film and TV industries. Established in 2024, the Adobe Film & TV Fund is providing assistance to “thousands of emerging creators, fostering greater representation and inclusion in the film and television industry,” the company said. The pledge includes grants, contributions and Adobe Creative Cloud product donations to creators. This year, the Adobe Film & TV Fund is partnering with Group Effort Initiative (GEI) to provide Adobe training courses for the next generation of filmmakers, editors and marketers. The collaboration also will support mid-career advancement for “diverse professionals through employer engagement, education, training and mentorship to enhance career growth in the entertainment industry.”...

AMC Stubs Insiders (that’s the free, entry-level AMC Stubs tier) who see at least eight movies or earn at least 5,000 AMC Stubs points in a calendar year will be upgraded to a new tier. Like the “Insider” tier that precedes Premiere GO! status, Premiere GO! is still free — the AMC Stubs pay tiers are Premiere (no GO! = $17.99 per year) and A-List (as much as $24.95 per month for nationwide access).
