Apple TV+ lands six nominations for the 52nd Daytime Emmy Awards for the beloved nature docuseries “The Secret Lives of Animals,” including Outstanding Science and Nature Program; Outstanding Directing Team for a Single Camera Daytime Non-Fiction Program; Outstanding Music Direction and Composition; Outstanding Cinematography; Outstanding Single Camera Editing; and Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. A24 and CMC Pictures are joining forces to bring an English-language version of Ne Zha 2, the runaway animated box office sensation from China, to theaters across North America this summer. The English version will feature Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh in a lead voice role. The film will open in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand on Aug. 22, screening in Imax, 3D and other premium large formats. The release marks a rare theatrical collaboration between A24 — best known for distinctive auteur-driven films like Uncut Gems, Aftersun, and Past Lives — and CMC Pictures, a Chinese state-backed company that dominates the global distribution of China’s most successful commercial cinema. Ne Zha 2 became the world’s top-grossing animated film of all time following its release earlier this year during China’s Lunar New Year holiday. It has earned a massive $2.2 billion, surpassing Pixar’s Inside Out 2 ($1.7 billion) at the global box office. It is also the fifth-highest-grossing film worldwide overall, with nearly all of its revenue coming from the Chinese mainland....

AWhile Trump has flirted with imposing a 100 percent tariff on movies made outside the United States, Wisconsin is welcoming the industry with hope and energy. A new bipartisan budget from the Badger State — which tipped red in the last presidential race — will ramp up Wisconsin’s film and TV game. Last week, local legislators made plans to re-establish the state’s film office, which went dark in 2005. They also approved $5 million in annual tax credits, with a $1 million cap per project, for productions made in Wisconsin. Democrats started winning again during state elections this spring, but securing new arts funding from the government in 2025 is a political miracle almost anywhere in the country...

The price of movie tickets is receiving a drastic, though conditional, decrease at a major theater chain. While recent years have seen major box office hits including 2025's Lilo & Stitch (which is on track to make more than $1 billion) and 2024's Inside Out 2 (which briefly became the highest-grossing animated movie ever), theaters have struggled throughout the 2020s. One way that AMC Theatres has reacted to this shifting marketplace is the recent announcement that tickets would be 50% off on Wednesdays for members of their rewards program AMC Stubs. However, per Variety, the theater chain has announced that the 50% off deal will now be extended to Tuesdays as well. This will be replacing the chain's prior Tuesday deal of $5 tickets for Stubs members. There will be exclusions for holidays and for specific movies. Additionally, surcharges for online ticket purchases, 3D tickets, and premium large format tickets will still apply. The new ticket pricing for Tuesdays and Wednesdays is already in place at the time of writing. The chain's small popcorn and drink combo will also be discounted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays...

European movie theater chain Vue is looking to shake things up by introducing its own PLF named Epic. Epic will feature Dolby Atmos sound, HDR by Barco laser projection, and according to Vue CEO Tim Richards, the "very latest and best possible sight and sound technology available." The report states that the first 11 Epic theaters will open this year across the U.K., Italy, and the Netherlands, and that 50 more Epic screens will open across the rest of Vue's European markets by the end of 2027.
