TAMC Theaters has announced a special double feature of two new horror movies taking place on Halloween. This is something that hasn't really happened at major movie theaters since 2007, when Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez teamed up for their Grindhouse double feature, which played by Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Tarantino's Death Proof. John Hegeman of XYZ Films and Flawless, the companies that have partnered with AMC for this event, said: "Consumers deserve a deal, and this double feature feels like the perfect way to celebrate Halloween weekend. We want to drive audiences to theaters for great indie movies like these, and this is a creative way to do it. We're grateful to AMC for bringing this event to horror fans nationwide."....

Angel Studis, the Utah-based studio behind Sound of Freedom has gone from a family-run outsider operation to a $1.6 billion public company in less than a decade. Angel’s blend of evangelical-inspired hits and broader family fare. Angel’s secret weapon has been its 1.5 million-strong “Angel Guild,” paying members who double as financiers and gatekeepers, voting on which projects make it to screens, as well as providing Kickstarter-style capital investments and a “pay-it-forward” booking system that allows people to buy and then donate movie tickets to Angel Studios releases for others to use. “Rather than having a couple dozen people make all the decisions about every movie that goes out, I can’t take a movie into the studio and stream it or take it to theaters unless the guild passes it,” chief content officer Jeffrey Harmon explained. That grassroots democracy has delivered some startling wins, including the $250 million global success of Sound of Freedom and The King of Kings, a South Korean-produced animated hit about the life of Jesus, which has grossed more than $70 million worldwide. Disney Hit With Legal Salvo From Shareholders Over Jimmy Kimmel Suspension. The entertainment giant may soon have to turn over documents and communications dealing with the late-night host's sidelining. The shareholders are asking for board materials related to the suspension of Kimmel. They also seek communications with government officials, Nexstar and Sinclair over the decision; copies of Disney’s deals addressing affiliate stations’ right to pre-empt programming; policies regarding moderation of late-night programming; and information on the company’s ability to obtain regulatory approval in other areas of its business. The purpose of the so-called “books and records” demand is to investigate potential misconduct. Depending on what they uncover, the investors could file a shareholder lawsuit.  “There is a credible basis to suspect that the Board and executives may have breached their fiduciary duties of loyalty, care, and good faith by placing improper political or affiliate considerations above the best interests of the Company and its stockholders,” said the letter, which cites concerns of whether Disney took into consideration Nexstar’s $6.2 billion megamerger with Tegna...

Christopher Nolan has been elected president of the Directors Guild of America, taking over the reins as the union prepares for upcoming negotiations with the major studios. Nolan, an Oscar winner and one of the most successful helmers of his generation, succeeds Lesli Linka Glatter, who served two terms at the helm and was first elected in 2021. He has been active in the DGA for some time and at present is a member of its national board of directors. Over the last four years, the DGA has focused its lobbying efforts in Sacramento on set safety issues. The union pushed for a pilot program that requires a safety supervisor on sets of productions supported by the California film and TV tax incentive. The union was also heavily involved in the lobbying effort this year to expand the California tax credit and include a broader range of productions. In negotiations, the union has focused on expanding foreign streaming residuals. If tradition holds, the DGA will have initial conversations with the Alliance for Motion Picture and Television Producers sometime by early next year. During the last contract cycle in 2023, the DGA was the only one of the Big Three unions to reach a new contract without a work stoppage...

Who is going to be the new 007? According to Bamigboye, the casting process won't begin until Villeneuve has completed the intriguingly titled "Dune: Part III," but this doesn't mean we can't place certain big names out of contention. Apparently, all non-Brits are out of the running, so Glenn Powell, Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi, and Austin Butler won't be wielding that Walther PPK. As for most of the popular Brit candidates, they're out, too. Given that new Bond producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal are looking for a young Bond in his late 20s or early 30s, you can forget about Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, or Michael Caine.The new Bond creative team is going to go for an unknown, which, relatively speaking, could be akin to someone like Timothy Dalton, who very few American moviegoers barely recalled from Mike Hodges' "Flash Gordon" prior to his time as 007. Then again, they could just pluck some fresh face out of obscurity. In my opinion, if this franchise relaunch is to successfully differentiate itself from the EON films before it, then this is the way to go. For now, however, consider the James Bond casting derby wide open ... so long as you were born in England. Which brings us to the next question: What story is this new 007 adventure going to tell?...
