CLUB INTERACTIVE TRAINING PROGRAM - 2007-2008

Contact, information: Jean Constant
  APRIL - MAGAZINE MONTH
A) BACKGROUND
THE MAGAZINE IS DEAD – VIVE LE MAGAZINE!
First US newspaper: 1721 – Publisher: James Franklin
Final copy of the final newspaper on your doorstep: 2043 Philip Meyer – The vanishing newspaper (2004)
HARD FACTS:
• US NOV. 2007 Circulation fell at most U.S. newspapers in the six months to September. Average daily paid e circulation for newspapers printed Monday through Friday fell 2.6 percent and Sunday circulation fell 3.5 percent for the six-month period that ended September 30, 2007, compared with the year before, according to publishers’ statistics released by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
Reader comment: Why pay for a subscription? Look at the Sunday paper - you get 8 pounds of paper delivered to your doorstep, you only read a few pages of yesterday’s news, throw the rest away.
• UK NOV. 2007 The number of UK adults reading at least one national daily newspaper on an average day fell from 26.7 million in 1992 to 21.7 million last year, according to research.
GIVE THEM THE ROPE …(Karl Marx):
- Greed: marketing department, ads take over editorial & honest journalism)
- Complacency: uniformity of information (plain repeat major of News agencies (REUTER, AP, API, etc) releases without fact checking)
INFORMATION IS NOT DEAD YET
The World Association of Newspapers: - China topped the list in term of total newspaper circulation with 93.5 million a day, - India came second with 78.8 million, - Japan, with 70.4 million; - United States, with 48.3 million; - Germany, with 22.1 million. Around 75 of the 100 best selling newspapers are in Asia and seven out of top ten are Japanese newspapers. The highest selling from the United States is USA Today, which is 13th in the world.
