As stated at the
New Mexico Hispanic Music Awards Show,
Espanola is a great source of the New
Mexico Hispanic Music. A large percentage
of the New Mexico Hispanic Music Talent
originates right here and around the
Espanola Valley. That is why the New
Mexico Hispanic Music Awards were held
here in Espanola.

There are those
who would say that Country Music is
still the most popular music in Espanola.
To the extent that the Hispanic Music
Performers include Country Songs in
their performances indicates that Country
Music is in great demand in the Espanola
Valley. Performers include; Heritage,
Pure Country, Shot of Gold, Roy Clark,
Kenny Chestnut, etc. Country Music
Star Michael Murphy lives in Northern
New Mexico and part of the governor's
music commission.

One expression of
Indian Music is by the San Juan Pueblo
Matachines. This is expressed in the
form of music and dance. Colorful outfits
are a central part of the Matachines
at their performance at the San Juan
Pueblo Feast Day. The Matachines are
well known among the pueblos and continue
to be a large part of San Juan Pueblo
Culture.

Roberto Mondragon
a former Lt. Gov. and a popular performer sings
at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in
observance of Hispanic HeritageMonth.
Mr. Cipriano Vigil a Northern New Mexico
educator and musician, sang traditional
New Mexican folk songs and told stories,
in words and music with his guitar
and fiddle at the opening event for
the Lab's Hispanic Heritage Month observance. Cipriano
Vigil performs at LANL.

Mariachi Music has
been highly demanded but it supply
was not always available. Only until
relatively recently did local talent
get involved with Mariachi Music. In
the not too distant past there were
only a few select Mariachi Bands. Those
bands were not well known nor were
they readily available for regular
performances. Now that is changing Mariachi
Color, Mariachi
De El Valle are two examples
of Professional Mariachi interests.
