Churches are some of New Mexico's favorite forms of architechture. Espanola and surrounding areas have some of the beautifulist churches in the country. Some of these churches are known around the world, such as the Santuario, which is located only ten miles east of Espanola. One of the newest churches in the Espanola area is located right in the center of Espanola's down town plaza, the Convento.

While businesses usually use a standard form of architecture, you might find that in New Mexico businesses almost have a Southwestern or even New Mexico theme to them. Take "The Super 8 Motel" or "Valley National Bank" for instance, the were built use such traditional techniques as indian style roofing, brown stucoed adobe walls, and vigas. But not all businesses in Espanola share that same style.

Residential area's around Espanola and other parts of Northern New Mexico have always been very traditional. Some people to steel build houses out of adobe. Around our area you will see many Southwestern and indian style houses. But as years pass house designs are becoming more and more modern around these parts. In some of the following houses you will see a mixture of some more traditional houses and some of the more modern houses.

Farm land is a big part of Espanola. Many people still grow crop around Espanola and some people even use there land as their main source of income. People farm anthing from fruits and vegetables, such as apples, corn, calvacitas, and chile, to catle food, such as alfalfa and grass. Barns were more commonly used to preserve hay, but now days are more complex with multi-horse stables.
