Each center will provide life skill training for people with special needs to achieve their potential through self-sufficiency and employment. This school will be the first of its kind in the city. The grant will provide training and employment for 100 special needs people per year. The ultimate goal of this project is to make people with special needs self sufficient and productive. Summary
The purpose of this matching grant is to provide food supplies for volunteer parents to prepare 32,000 healthy meals for 160 children for a full school year. In Mexico there is no government sponsored food services program for schools, therefore; most of the low income children can stay up to 8 hours without eating. According to the Juarez University’s Social Work Department, the children of the Justo Sierra elementary school have difficulties to learn because of malnutrition. The parents of these children took food preparation classes in order to improve the nutritional levels of the meals at a very low cost. (60 cents a meal)
