Acquisition of a vehicle with rear hydraulic arm and basket that would be donated to the city council of the municipality of Calera for the maintenance of public lighting and prevent violent attacks against children and women. Literacy supplies for 4,000 children and 800 adults. We will participate in providing nine-month parenting and family literacy programs at 12 schools all across El Paso County and at 2 neighboring Dona Ana County sites. - Summary
The purpose of this grant is to equip a vocational school for people with special needs. The school will have four training centers: carpentry, sawing, gardening and janitorial services. Each center will provide life skill training for people with special needs to achieve their potential through self-sufficiency and employment. This school will be the first of its kind in the city. The grant will provide training and employment for 100 special needs people per year. The ultimate goal of this project is to make people with special needs self sufficient and productive. Also the project will benefit their families by increasing the family income. Currently, there is a training center operating, a puppet house theater, which is self-sufficient and have done several paid Award-Winning presentations in Mexico for the past three years. - Summary
The purpose of this matching grant is to provide food supplies for volunteer parents to prepare 32,000 healthy meals for 160 children for a full school year. In Mexico there is no government sponsored food services program for schools, therefore; most of the low income children can stay up to 8 hours without eating. According to the Juarez University’s Social Work Department, the children of the Justo Sierra elementary school have difficulties to learn because of malnutrition. The parents of these children took food preparation classes in order to improve the nutritional levels of the meals at a very low cost.
